Pretty much everyone I have had a conversation with about their hopes for this new year has agreed that there’s something special about 2016. It holds convictions of promises for a lot of people and, people believing God really has something great in store for them this year. I couldn’t agree more – the strong sense of desire to achieve is spreading like wildfire.
I really believe that God is about to open the floodgate of Heaven and pour out great blessings on us and the reason everyone has a general sense of this is because, we all have a piece of God’s DNA in us and we can always have a knowing of the seasons we are in.
On the flipside, I’ve been feeling a bit apprehensive because this year could potentially be disappointing for a lot of people despite God’s blessings being poured out on them simply because they don’t know and/or understand the magnitude of the battle they will have to fight in order to receive some of these blessings.
In Hosea chapter 4 verse 6 (AMP) it says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge [of My law, where I reveal My will]…”. For the first time I have come to have a different and much more convincing revelation of what this could actually mean.
I came across a little book while I was back home in Lagos called, “Command The Morning” by Dr D.K. Olukoya who is the General Overseer of a popular church in Nigeria known as Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM). And in this book, he basically explained with biblical bases, that there are three kinds of Heaven portrayed in the Bible:
- The highest Heaven or Third Heaven is essentially where God’s throne is and can be described as the paradise of God and His Holy Angels. You can read 2 Corinthians chapter 2 verses 2 to 4 for one of the allusions to this sphere;
- The second Heaven which is the abode of wicked spirits, as described in Ephesians chapter 6 verse 12 (AMP): “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places.” and;
- The first heaven as described in Genesis chapter 1 verse 14 which is the sky above us and the residence of the celestial bodies i.e. the sun, the moon and the stars which have their different ordinances in respect of seasons, days, years, divide day from night etc.
Now, why in God’s name are these important and relevant? Because contrary to popular belief, what you don’t know can actually harm you especially in the area of the authority we have as believers and followers of Christ Jesus.
A lot of us Christians think ourselves too ordinary (partially because we don’t fully comprehend how key we are to God’s plan) so we can’t reconcile the fact that there are potentially forces beyond our natural comprehension that have a vested interest in making sure we don’t receive the answers to our prayers and our God ordained blessings. I hate to break it to you guys, but our modern fluffy compromised Christianity is robbing us blind and we really need to start taking the concept of spiritual warfare mad seriously!
Of the three heavens, our main problems all start and end and take root in the second heaven. As I read more about this second heaven and all the wickedness it represents, I began to gain insight into why people’s prayers appear not to be answered. I used to really be baffled because, when I read 1 John chapter 5 verse 14 to 15 (NLT) which says: “And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for“, it doesn’t add up particularly because of my awareness of the fact that not every Christian’ s prayers gets answered and at the same time I know God doesn’t lie so there was a void in my understanding of how these two phenomena could coexist.
Then it dawned on me that the issue isn’t that God doesn’t answer but rather that when He sends the answers forth through His angels (Hebrews chapter 1 verse 14), there are formidable forces in the second heavens that try to hinder the manifestation of that answer coupled with the fact that we can also use our words of doubt to further delay our answer from coming through and fuel the warfare in favour of the enemy. As a result, many Christians have given up on prayer altogether because we don’t get the results we are promised.
But praise God that His truth is revealed to us to empower us in our different seasons.
Guys, I’m no authority on this matter neither do I know it all but what I do know, I will share for the sake of those who want to gain more understanding.
You see, I used to believe myself to not be a morning person and I didn’t understand why I’d have to pray in the mornings as if God only hears prayers at that time of the day. This has also been, for many years, a practice nonetheless encouraged by church leaders but without any convincing reason as to why it was a preferred time of prayer so I never paid it any mind, until Command The Morning opened my eyes.
It’s little wonder why Jesus did most of His praying early in the morning (Mark chapter 1 verse 35) or evening (Matthew chapter 14 verse 23) or all night (Luke chapter 6 verse 12), generally when the sun was tucked away and darkness was all over. So there’s something to be said for the significance of this considering that a lot of our progress and guidance in our Christian faith is linked to “light” e.g Jesus being the light of the world (John chapter 8 verse 12), God’s word being light unto our path (Psalm chapter 119 verse 105) etc., while there are verses that allude to our expected disassociation from darkness such as us not being “of night or darkness” (1 Thessalonians chapter 5 verse 5), us being delivered from darkness (Colossians chapter 1 verse 13), us being called to expose “works” of darkness (Ephesians chapter 5 verse 11) etc.
What better way to paralyse darkness than with light? We literally have to take the light of God in us to the dark places so as to possess that place. It’s not enough for us to take the approach of “this is the light corner and that’s the dark corner” – there should be no darkness at all!
The wee hours of the morning is when darkness is its thickest and the guard of most people is down – because, well, they are asleep – and this is when evil forces run all riot using the authority of the celestial bodies (sun, moon, stars) in the first heaven to plan disruptions in the lives of Christians. By the time the sun is out, it’s light is projecting something else than we would have it project into our day hence why Psalm chapter 121 verse 6 prays that the sun would not strike us in the day – definitely not talking about mere sunburn or skin cancer smite . If this wasn’t a possibility, why else would the Bible make it a point to express that God has given us dominion over everything He created (Psalm 8:6) apart from other human beings, of course? We need to know we can counter any evil planned against us by exercising our own authority on the celestial bodies to paralyse whatever evil has been programmed into it for our detriment.
Listen, I know this is going way over the heads of MANY people because you’ve most likely never heard of these concepts preached in church, particularly if you’re not of a pentecostal background. But please, the Bible is there and I’ve tried to include many verses to give a biblical backing so you know that none of this is of my natural wisdom but rather in accordance to and by inspiration from God’s Word.
Now for those really interested in commanding all that is theirs into its rightful existence, I suggest that:
- You find and read this book. It’s actually available on iTunes surprisingly enough and;
- Get acquainted with the prayers that you can be praying in the mornings, from the book. I found a link for the prayers [btn text=”here” tcolor=#0000FF bcolor=#F2F2F2 thovercolor=#FFF link=”http://www.mfmislington.org/command-morning/” target=”_blank”]. Pray consistently at all times (1 Thessalonians chapter 5 verse 17), not just this type of prayer but all prayers. That way we fuel the battle in favour of the earthbound angels conveying our blessings and answers. Persistence is key!
- As you study the Bible from henceforth, approach it with reverence because it’s not your fictional book you read on your journey to and from work but rather it contains hidden treasure available to those who seek it – Proverbs chapter 2 verse 2 to 5 explains more what you should be getting from God’s Words.
I pray that as you seek to understand more of all this, the Lord will open your spiritual eyes to see truth and also your spirit will confirm it within you, regardless of how far fetched this might all sound.
Christianity isn’t for wimps, guys. We have work to do and a serious battle to fight when it comes to winning the world back for Christ but we can’t do it if we don’t get rid of our hindrances.
May God’s power equip you for the journey ahead,
